Nokia, the Finnish Company has added another smartphone to its portfolio – Nokia 8.1 (New Nokia 8), Android One Smartphone. Originally, Nokia 8.1, Android One Smartphone is the global version of the Nokia X7 that was introduced in China back in October 2018 and the successor of the Nokia 7 Plus. The Nokia 8.1 also comes with Google’s Android Enterprise program. The handset follows the same glass design with notch display as the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus.
Nokia 8.1 is priced at EUR 399.00 (1,499.00 Dirhams, US $452.00) and it will be available in Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, Iron/Steel dual-tone color variants. The key highlights of the Nokia 8.1 are 6.18-inch PureDisplay with HDR10 support, dual rear camera setup with Zeiss optics, the Snapdragon 710 processor, runs on Android 9 Pie, and its 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging capabilities.

Design and Display
The Nokia 8.1 features a two-tone design and it is built out of 6000-Series aluminum that has diamond cut edges and gone through two anodizing processes. The smartphone has aluminium-magnesium alloy frame and a glass on the back. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back and for the audio – there is a single speaker with smart amplifier, 2 mics and Nokia Ozo surround capture. The company also said that the Nokia 8.2 has Google ARCore support. The Nokia 8.1 measures 154.8×75.76×7.97mm in size and weigh in at 178 grams.
On the display side, the Nokia 8.1 features 6.18-inch PureDisplay IPS LED panel with Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and 86.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display on Nokia 8.1 flaunts a wide notch, 500 nits peak brightness, DCI-P3 wide color gamut (96 percent NTSC Colour gamut), HDR10 video playback and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Performance and Storage
Under the hood, Nokia 8.1 is powered by an Octa-Core Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 SoC which is coupled with 4GB of LPPDDR4x RAM and Adreno 616 GPU. The architecture is based on Kryo 360 CPU where the dual core has a clocking speed of 2.2GHz while the Hexacore has a clocking speed of 1.7GHz. The setup offers a smooth and seamless experience while playing games, multitasking, etc.
The Nokia 8.1 has 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 400GB via microSD card.
Camera And Operating System
In the camera department, the Nokia 8.1 has a dual-camera setup on the back with ZEISS optics – the primary 12-megapixel with 1/2.55-inch Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.4-micron pixel size, OIS, EIS, 2PD (dual photodiode) tech, a dual-LED flash while the secondary 13-megapixel fixed focus with telephoto lens for zoom and portrait mode. Other features include 4K video recording (at 30fps) professional portrait mode, and AI-based scene detection to automatically detect 18 scenes.
On the front, there is a 20-megapixel fixed focus lens with f/2.0 aperture, and pixel binding that can combine four pixels to form 1.8µm large pixel for better low-light photography. The front camera also has AI beauty, AI portrait mode, 6 AI studio lights, AI expressions, and new dual-view mode.
The camera on Nokia 8.1 comes with features like Bothie – it allows both the front and rear camera to be used simultaneously, as well as Pro Camera UI and several camera options.
The Nokia 8.1 is a part of the Android One programme which means that it will receive timely updates and it will be upgraded to the next two versions of Google’s mobile OS as soon as they are available. The Nokia 8.1 runs on Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box.

The Nokia 8.1 has a dual-SIM (Nano) support and comes with all standard connectivity features. The sensors on Nokia 8.1 are an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.
To make sure that everything ticks well, the Nokia 8.1 is fuelled with 3,500mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. The Nokia 8.1 is rated to deliver up to 22 hours of talk time, 24 days of standby time, and up to 11 hours of video playback.
