Amazon has unveiled the Alexa-powered Fire TV Cube streaming device at a price tag of US $199.99 and it will be available for pre-order starting from today. The Amazon Fire TV Cube with an option of Cloud Cam night-vision retails for US $199.98. The shipping starts from June 21st and as an introductory offer, Prime members can pre-order Fire TV Cube for a special price of US $89.99.
The Amazon Fire TV Cube is a combination of Fire TV and Amazon Echo Speaker along with 4K UHD streaming. Amazon has designed the Fire TV Cube just like a set-up-box that turns the TV on with voice command or lets you to control smart home devices like speakers, soundbars, thermostats, or cameras and work as a universal remote. The Amazon Fire TV Cube, when plugged into an HDTV, lets you watch movies, TV shows, use apps, and play games.
The Amazon Fire TV Cube powered by Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa and you can search or browse content as well as pause or resume shows & films. Additionally, you can ask Alexa about weather and if you say “Alexa, play Stranger Things,” it will turn the TV on and pull the content from Netflix.
Amazon Fire TV Cube is a shiny, cube-shaped box and on the back side, it has ports for HDMI, the IR dongle, microUSB, and power. There are four buttons on top of the device for adjusting volume and muting the built-in microphone. Additionally, there’s a light strip that runs on the top and glows blue when you can call for Alexa, and it will chime to acknowledge when the assistant is listening.
All four sides of the Amazon Cube have IR blasters that allow the device to communicate and control everything from TV to cable boxes to soundbars, and audio-video receivers. There are IR blasters built into the box, and you get separate IR extender that connects to the back of the back of the device.
The Amazon Fire TV Cube is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor which is paired with Mali 450 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It runs on Amazon’s usual Fire TV interface and has 16GB internal storage. It comes with eight microphones built-in, to hear you when it’s too loud or you are in another room, and supports wide-range device through the cloud, infrared (IR), and HDMI-CEC, and more will be adding in coming days. The Amazon Fire TV Cube also comes with support for HDR10, Dolby Atmos audio, Ethernet port, 802.11ac dual-band WiFi, and controls on the top. It measures 86.1 x 86.1 x 76.9mm and weighs only 465 grams.
